In 1987, Al Afandi decided lo focus its efforts anct energy on modern technology and researchin fields that are traditionally limited to developed countries. The company established a Hi¬Tech Department with a Research & Development capability aimed at producing distinctive products for the Middle East. The division covers an area of 15,000 Sq, ft, and is operated by a team of 15 highly qualified researchers, engineers and technicians. Today the Technology Division is able to develop and integrate adequate systems and solutions for security and surveillance applications covering air. lend or sea.

Some of the inventions of the division include:
" The Water Scout: This is a compact, remote-controlled vehicle which houses a camera that can capture live color video underwater, up to a depth of a hundred meters.
* The Video Transmitter: A family of rechargeable-battery operated devices with power
range from 2 to 20 Watts for mobile or fixed live wireless video links.
* The Land Robot: Operated by wireless remote control for use in the security sector. The
robot is designed to approach hazardous objects or explore dangerous locations and
broadcast live images to a portable control unit.

* The Specie! Helmet: A fully integrated helmet with a miniature camera end special circuitry for transmitting live wireless color video from locations of interest.
" The Special Secure Laser Telephone: A portable, battery-operated laser based system that provides fasl-to-deploy and highly secure field communication, which is immune to interference, detection or jamming, and protected from lightning.

The Technology Division has also developed several integrated solutions for Traffic/Security management. SOLAR WAFERS & CELLS

The silver paste paint is also fully automated and computer controlled (latest French technology).

RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT

In association with a reputed Canadian firm. Al Afancli developed a specialised 4x4 patrol car, ideal for military and security purposes. The vehicle is filted with a powerful 8.1 litre diesel / gasoline engine, art automatic gear system from General Motors, electronic settings and advanced telecommunication tools. It can travel through the roughest terrain and difficult weather conditions, while maintaining contact with its control centre. This car has been tested in Saudi Arabia and a few other countries in the Gulf.

AGRICULTURE

The Gang Ranch, in British Columbia, Western Canada, is one of the most important foreign investments of Al Afandi, Around 3775 square kilometres in size, it has woods, valleys, lakes, mountains as high as 4061 meters and the Fraser River flowing through it. It is the second biggest farm in North America.

Al Afandi is Ihe fifth investor to own the Gang Ranch in the last 150 years. In 1987, an important program for production and development brought in large investments in the fields of agriculture and livestock. Animal farming plags a major role in Al Afandi's activities. Todag, the ranch includes 5000 head of cattle, which makes it one of the biggest cattle producers in Canada.
